Would a normal size Humbucker fit inside the casing for my Wide Range?

I'd heard the RI WRHB has a normal sized bucker inside. Is this true? Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

CC

In answer your first question: If it is a an original, no. If it is a RI, yes, which also answers your second question.

In fact could I steal some more wisdom from your otherwordly self please?

With the WRHB having the screw pole pieces separate, from the top 3 and bottom 3, what HB's could I buy that will fit? So that I can have the exact look of a WRHB. I would love anything by DiMarzio, I love their sounds but will any take screws on both sides?

Many thanks.

The closest (spacing wise) would be the DiMarzio "F" spaced stuff. However, you must keep in mind that due to US patents, copyrights and the laws thereof, the distance between the polepieces on pickups made in the US deliberately vary from manufacturer to manufacturer; the same goes for bobbin size, etc.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean when you ask, "...DiMarzio...will any take screws on both sides?" Would you please reword this question?

Sorry I was so unclear.

I mean that on most HB's there are magnetic pole pieces on one side and the screw ones on the other whereas the WRHB has it split with the three for the wound strings on the right side (while facing guitar) and the plain strings on the left side.

If I were to put a regular HB in the WRHB casing, how would I make that work so that it looks the same as it always did?

Thanks Martian.

Got it.

You have a twofold problem here in the sense that #1, you'd have to select a pickup which has 12 adjustable, slotted head screw polepieces and #2, this limits you quite a bit in terms of the pickup models you'd be interested in which would have them. This is, unless of course, you don't mind 12 adjustable allen head screw polepieces. Unfortunately too, the vast majority of pickups out there with allen screws (by design) do not go through a pickup's base, only to it, unlike the slotted head designs which protrude well below the base and obviously, are significantly longer. Further, slotted and allen screws are not the same size with even yet another size having to be considered which is that of most non-adjustable polepiece slugs.

So, unless you want to get into the whole business of cannibalizing and modifying multiple pickups in order to remake the one for your existing housing and pickguard, you may want to consider having a custom pickguard made which will properly mount what we would consider in this context, a 'normal' humbucker and abandon the OEM housing idea.

You''re only other practical alternative is to have the existing pickup custom rewound, etc.
