(Newbie here, I did try and search for my question)

The S1 switch for SSS guitars uses Samarium Cobalt pickups which have three wires (shield ground, hot and signal ground I think)

Can the S1 switch be used with pickups having only two wires?

Well, I found an answer to my question on the Unofficial Fender forum (FDP)

http://www.fenderforum.com/forum.html?d ... ber=689743

All you have to do is wire the pickups as they are on the Fender.com wiring resource PDFs, but you have to leave out the green wires shown coming from the SCN's, as normal pickups do not have that extra green wire.

So I just wired up my 60th Anniv. Strat lik this and am happy to report it works very well.

What may be an issue is that in some positions, if you touch a pickup polepiece you get loud buzzing, indicating a bad or absent ground.

'scuse me for butting in, but has anybody done this with an American Standard? If so, what did it add, if anything?

I believe it gives you all of these options-

Hi Mr. Very Slowhand,

Yes, as YZFJOE says, if you do the mod it will make your American Standard have the same options as the American Deluxe.

It does not matter if you do not have a Delta Tone pot, as I have done the mod with H H guitar without the mod.

Also you are able to change the capacitor shown if you think it's too muddy. I had a .022uf cap in there at one time with the HH guitar and I liked the tones. The stock value is (I think) .050uf. I used a .047 cap.

I have not tried my "just modded" guitar at gigging volumes (might tomorrow) to see if the cap is too muddy or not as some users have said.

My guitar was totally stock beforehand, with two wire pickups and a 5 way. replaced all with the S1 pot and the megaswitch, wired like the diagram on the Fender Deluxe wiring diagram.

Obviously it's a complex diagram but I got it done in about an hour and was pleased with the results.
