I just got a really good deal on the whole set of pickups, but the markings don't match what MF shows on their website. I have done a search but can't find anything to help me identify if these are legit or not. I bought them used and didn't even think that they could be the wrong pickups. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

btw.... The box says 2005 and the pickups have a number of 0167340 stamped into the plastic and 56205 written in white paint marker....but the MF diagram says that they should have a blue and red dot on the neck and bridge...mine do not have that.

Finally got ahold of Fender....the pickups are not custom shop. they said unless it has a cs sticker and cloth wire, then it isn't the real thing. Guess that Guitar Center needs a lesson in what to buy and sell......

What they told you is NOT entirely true. Texas Specials that come as original pickups in certain Fender models will never have Custom Shop stickers on them. Nor will they have the Red and Blue dots that the aftermarket versions will. That number on your pickup bobbin is in fact a part number for the plastic bobbin. Fender uses that bobbin with a number of their pickups, such as the American Series, the Classic Series, and the Tex-Mex. Texas Specials, like most of the Custom Shop pups, have vintage black fiber bobbins. And of course the CS69 is gray rather than black.

My 2 cents...

I installed Texas specials on my 70's Strat, and the pickups DO have the "Custom Shop" stickers on them. I also have an SRV Strat, and the pickups DO NOT have the sticker, although they are Texas special pups.

So if you were to buy them privately, they could have been taken out of an SRV Strat, and therefore have no CS sticker.

I have an original set of Custom Shop USA Texas Specials I had put in mt 91 Strat 91 when they first came out. They do not sound anything like the ones made today. The older are a bit mellower
