Not trying to be smart, but the tone controls on the guitar and amp can make a world of difference in warming up a strats tone. I like my Suhr F/L standard pickups a lot. I can get them to sound warm, but I mostly like them to sound bright with lots of attack and punch- that's why I like Strats. You might also consider a stacked humbucker pickup to fit in your single coil slots. Hope this helps. Good luck!

+1 what gatornavy said .I used to run my strats at 10 on the tone knob all the time, but found my overdrive sound shrill and rather icepickey. Finally i noticed that the tone knob does indeed move. Not only that , but it changes thing for the better. Now i play my strat at around 7 on the tone when i play my tubescreamer and i play them at 9-10 when i play clean.
