Hmm...

To me Fender isn't really worth the price it commands, unless you get it off ebay. But the closest think I'd like would probably be the Custom Shop '54s.

I wouldn't say that. I've gone thru a lot of aftermarket pickups. Fralins, Kinmans, Toneriders, Suhrs, DiMarzios, Duncans, etc etc... I always end up coming back to Fender pickups. There's something about them you don't get with the rest, and vice versa. i seem to prefer the tones I get from Fender pups.

Especially if they're willing to release the CS65s for sale... heh.

Different choices for different guitars.

Hot Noiseless should be a choice.

Myself, I prefer my Copperheads, as they're more "vintage Fender" than Fender's offerings. But of the options, I'm a big fan of the CS '69s.

I have a new favorite outright single coil combo and believe it or not, they are all production model Duncans. I know these aren't Fenders but for the same or less money, they do deserve some serious consideration. I have them in a Deluxe Player Strat:

SSL-2 in the neck, SSL-5 in the middle, SSL-3 in the bridge. All three have even height pole pieces, better for the 12" radius fingerboard and in general for superior string to string balance. The SSL-2 is a healthy but moderate output, Pre-CBS sounding pickup. The SSL-5 is in the same tonal vein as the SSL-2 but with expanded power and midrange. It has excellent sustain and takes any kind of clanky sterility out of the middle position, breaking up quite nicely as required. The SSL-3 is more powerful and has more midrange than even the SSL-5. The SSL-3 outright sounds like a P-90 with lots of sustain and harmonics flying all over the place. And who wouldn't like a superior P-90 like that in their bridge position? Any or all of these pickups blend surprisingly well too. So, I continue to have a totally stock looking pickup combo but possess a Strat with some serious ATTITUDE!

Hello Demioblue,

I picked the 57/62's for their shimmery glassiness
but the custom 54's are pretty cool too.

Cheers.

That's the odd thing. I had an AVRI62 and I never got along with the 57/62s. I should have given them a bit longer to get used to them. But for some reason, i've never been able to get good tones out of the 57/62s...
