Hi.
Really basic question here. What is the relationship between a pickups output and its DC resistance. ie does high output = low resistance or the other way around?

Reason I ask is I saw a Bill Lawrence Tele neck p/up on ebay and the guy quoted 5.4k resitance. Is this going to be a higher or lower output than my standard neck p/up?

Cheers.

Too many people rely on the DC resistance of a pickup as the 'absolute' indicator of a pickup's strength. This resistance MAY be an indicator in many circumstances but in many circumstances it is NOT as there are several other factors which determine a pickup's output.

Having said that, in your particular situation, the Bill Lawrence pickup will be approximately the same in output as your standard pickup.

You might want to look at mV's (millivolts) to gauge the output. 100-140 I would guess is normal/low output.

Thanks for that guys.

Might pass on the Bill Lawrence then. I'm after something that'll be pretty evenly matched with the bridge pickup. At the moment the neck is WAY quieter.

Cheers.

I have an early 80s Fender Tele neck p/u and a Fender replacement from early 90's. Both measure in the mid 5's.

If all you're going by is resistance, the Bill Lawrence appears to be an exact match. Couldn't tell ya if it's any better or worse.
