I'm currently building a replica of the Dave Murray sig strat using Squier parts but in order to capture the sound as closely as possible, I'm using the same electrics. I've got a Fender 3 way switch, CTS vintage pots, orange drop cap, a Dimarzio 36th aniv PAF, and a Super distortion as per the specs. However the middle single coil is a 'Vintage style strat' which is a bit vague. What model is it exactly? I have found some vintage pups but they're usually only sold in sets. Grateful for any help.
Cheers

Although you'll never be able to know exactly what that middle pickup is, consider this: Premising the middle pickup of his 1957 Strat (formerly owned by Kossoff) was and still is still the original, the overwhelming odds would make it a 1957 Strat pickup as I doubt very strongly there would have been any left over Strat pickups at Fender from earlier years considering they were all hand made and wound back then. Consequently, a Fender 57/62 pickup would be as close as you're going to get. This, "'Vintage style strat" description of his signature model, I feel is just to add to the 'mystique' of the guitar. YMMV.

Cheers for that. I had looked at the 57/62 pup but again, getting them singly rather than a set of three is proving difficult. I'm still surprised that Fender haven't been a bit more specific in the specs.

I see them constantly for sale as singles. Check e-Bay, for one source.

Again, I don't think Fender would be more specific as they HAD to credit the Seymour Duncan pickups but if they pinpointed their own, lots more people like your goodly self will be doing what you are doing in lieu of buying this signature guitar. Good luck with your project!

Oh, and where's my manners? Welcome!!

I've had a look on ebay; plenty of sets! Google didn't throw anything up either. Feel free to shove me in the right direction!!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Of course, I can't seem to locate any at the moment. Keep your eye on Harmony Central's classifieds, The Gear Page classifieds and the Seymour Duncan Trading Post forum.
