Hello All!
Let us give a moment to thank the Earth for providing us with our Fender Guitars. ... There.

Now, I have a question.
I bought an SRV Strat years ago,
and was never satisfied with the tone.
I selected the guitar for its playability, and tone while unplugged!
:)
I have kept the original parts, of course.
I replaced the pick-guard with a beauty tortoise-shell, and placed the original SRV gaurd in a fire box.
I replaced the bridge pickup with a S.D. Hottrails, and ADDED a push-pull tone knob to this pickup, utlizing the 2nd tone pot location.
I replaced the middle pickup with a S.D. Quarter-Pounder.
The bridge pickup SHOULD BE original equipment.
I bought the guitar new.
My conern is this;
It is possible that the dealer in town 'stole' the TExas Specials out of this guitar before selling it to me, is it not?
All I have by way of ID'ing these originals,
is that the pickup in the bridge now has the initials 'EC' in silver sharpie on the bottom.
They are black on the bottom with white plastic casing.

Is there a way to be sure they are indeed Texas Specials?!
Thank You!
BTW:
this guitar is one mean (B****) or machine or instrument: however you want to put it.
:)
Cheers!

If you post a picture and measure the DC resistance, we might be able to confirm if they were switched.

It's not a simple task to "steal" the pickups, but I suppose it's possible if the guy has nothing better to do with his time.

I have pictures of the pickups on the computer already,
but know not how to post them into a response here.
I shall work towards discovering the tools necessary.
I also need a simple run-down exactly HOW to measure resistance!
i suppose I could take the old pickups to the same guy I bought the guitar from and ask him to measure them for me! That would be ironic.

Get a photobucket account.

From there, you can post pictures on your album and copy the IMG code onto here.

BTW, I don't like Texas Specials lol ;)

Ok.
THIS SHOULD BE A TEXAS SPECIAL.
I have yet to test the resistance.
This came from my SRV American STRAT,
I am curious if it is a Texas Special,
if it can be I'D'd:

And this should be the MIDDLE TExas Special from the SAME GUITAR!
I am concerned I was 'switched', but am not exactly suspiciious!

Image

note the 'A' on the first picture- bridge pickup, and the '3' on the 'middle' pickup... what are these markings? the original p/u in my neck is still in the guitar, and the letters 'EC', in caps, are printed on the bottom of it, in silver sharpie... wtf?

I note the white wires on the 'bridge' p/u, and the yellow on the 'middle'.
it is slightly possible too, that the one i am calling middle, was actually the bridge location p/u, and the one i call bridge, is actually middle... i pulled these out and put in seymour duncans... but i still want to know that i have the original Texas Specials that were in my SRV when i bought it.
it would really suck if the guy who wired in my new P/U's 'stole' my texas specials and gave me bogus cheap single-coils instead, ya know?

ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED AND BRING THE HELPER GOOD FORTUNE FOR YEARS TO COME! :)

For fun:
This is my SRV now:

Note the push/pull tone knob for bridge! :)

Neck: Original SRV(should be- bought new)
Middle: Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pounder
Bridge: S. D. SHR-1 Hottrails: with Push/Pull TONE for Phase/Single Coil OR Humbucking operation! :)
This guitar isa tone bender/ soul scorcher/ life enhancement beast of love;
:)

Volume: usually 7/8, kick up to 10 for full onslaught of killerness/lovliness, neck/middle tone between 3 and 6, bridge tone from 0 to 10, just keeps changing, till full killer shred tone(which i dont use often, except for expressionisms at the end of major runs/solos/ melodic drive pieces. :)

CHEERS!

Yes,
I replaced the original Pickgaurd with a tortoise shell,
yes there are more holes in it than screws.
yes i love this baby.
the neck and tone are outstanding, especially with my pickup changes,
and ADDING TONE ADJUSTMENT to the BRIDGE PICKUP! ;)

They appear to be the real. Obviously, their DC resistances readings would be most helpful.

The yellow wire indicates RW/RP, your middle pickup.

The white marking on the bottom of each is the initial of the person who wound it.

Thank You very much.
I am convinced now, that I was not switched on.
I love my locally owned business'.
Even when I was a skeptical/nervous/downtrodden/insecure jerk;
they stayed true.
:)

So,
what is your opinion of my 'mods'?
The Quarter-Pounder in the Middle,
with the Hottrails in the bridge,
and a push/pull tone knob replacing the middle-tone pot,
and tied to the bridge,
with the neck tone pot applied to the neck/middle pickups?
:)

The variation in sound is incredible.

You're quite welcome.

You had better hope that local shop you frequent doesn't read these forums! But I guess you redeemed yourself in their eyes now, even if they do. LOL.

If you were aiming for a, "balls and bells" Strat, you've certainly achieved your objective!

I'm a firm believer in being able to get all pickup combinations (with a tone pot on them) out of a Strat, even if they are seldom used. And of course, extreme versatility out of one guitar is always a beautiful thing!!

Enjoy it in good health for many years to come!
