ok so i took my invader out to clean it as well as clean up the rest of my guitar and replace the strings. I took the 12 cap screws out but now they are not going in tight do they have to? cant test it because im getting new strings for the strat tomorrow just curious to know if i screwed up the pickup lol, not worried if i did just curious to know.

Probably did but as i cant test it until tomorrow not sure if taking those 12 caps out would effect anything. They dont get super tight when going in so not sure

Naturally, these cap screws are pole pieces. Loosely fitting pole pieces are not a good thing.

It is my understanding that those cap screws are initially heated and pressed into the bobbin rather than screwed in. So, any kind of radical turning of them will to a degree, deteriorate their threads inside the bobbin.

Try this as a remedy:

Get a candle or some kind of wax like that. In an appropriate and ventilated area, protect whatever surface and immediate surroundings you will be working on and near. Scrape the wax with the threads of the cap screws, getting the threads nice and gunked up with the wax. Reinstall the waxed screws back into the bobbin. Hopefully, you will meet some resistance now and the looseness will be firmed up somewhat.

Wax will probably be protruding from the top of the bobbin and possibly from the bottom of the pickup. For the moment, this is irrelevant. Once all six screws are reinstalled, using a hair dryer in a constant, alternate left to right and up and down motion, melt the wax as quickly and efficiently as possible as you don't want to warp the bobbins which also means, don't get the 'business end' of the dryer too close to the pickup. Once you see wax dripping from the bottom of the pickup, stop with the hair dryer and wipe off the excess wax with a paper towel from the top of the bobbins while the wax is still wet. Use some sort of gloves or something for your hands' protection as the pickup will be too hot for safe skin contact, especially with the liquified wax. You don't have to bother with the bottom of the pickup at all. The fact that the bottom of the pickup is dripping wax indicates that the wax on the screw threads in the bobbin heated and melted too.

Let the pickup sit for several minutes to totally cool down. Once cooled down, the wax will have resolidified and the cap screws will no longer be loose in the bobbin as they now have new threads.

I want to stress care and caution:

A) Wax is highly flammable so again, you want to protect yourself and surrounding areas.
B) The pickup will heat up rather quickly and stay hot for a while so ensure you don't touch it with 'naked fingers' or you WILL get burned.
C) Keep 'B' in mind in conjunction with 'A'.
D) Like I said above, excessive heat will warp the bobbin.

Good luck!

thats an awesome idea, dumb on my part for taking them out lol. They go in a bit tight but not super tight if i were to try to tighten them more then losen back up. Again i have no strings to test it yet but when i put the power to the pickup it sounds normal. but i will try that method just to get a nice tight fit. thanks

I would bet there is nothing wrong with the pickup as merely unscrewing them cannot really damage the pickup, per se so I wouldn't worry about it. Again, take care when you do the wax thing. And of course, you're quite welcome.
