Ok, I will admit to be a guitar noob, especially around the electronics portion.

When Lace sells a set of 3 Gold pickups (as a packaged set), are they all the same spec or is one hotter than the other? Again, what is the purpose of having 3 pickups if they are all the same specs?

I have a feeling there is a real simple answer that has to do with blending the separate tone controls or caps or something, but I will still embarrass myself and ask the question.

Thanks for educating me!!!

I love your handle!

The Lace Sensor Gold Set is 3 pickups with all the same specs. MANY players like the traditional sound and output of old Strats from the 1950s where for all intents and purposes, the specs of all three pickups were the same. This Gold set is simply Lace's take on these 1950s Strat pickups. The tone controls, etc. in your context have nothing to do with it. Don't feel embarrassed as I'm sure your not the only person in, "The World of Guitars" who has pondered such questions. And because you asked, now you know!

The simple answer is: The tone of the pickups is different depending on the position of the pickup. That's why there are three on a Strat. Even if the pickups are exactly the same they will sound different depending on position; neck, mid or bridge.

The Lace Sensor Hot Golds happens to be my favorite pickups. Can be described as a very "stratty" pickup (whatever that is) with a very nice clean sound, wonderful dynamics and with a high defined sound all the way from clean to heavy dist. They can also be purchased as a set with a hotter 13.2k bridge pickup for a little more bite. I love that set!

My second preference in pickups is the Fender Hot Noiseless set. The same as above can be said for those except that they have that mid-range hump in frequency that I love sometimes.

I found the Hot Golds a little too modern sounding for me. I added the Silver FLS in the bridge which makes the Gold/Gold/Silver set pretty much the same spec as the CS54 but with out the noise. Just enough mids & boost on the bridge to balance everything out really well. That's what works for me.

Who out there has red or blue Lace pups? I'm looking for something with some bite to it for one of my other Strats. Just a good, dirty, knarly sound.
