So I finally decided (after hours of sound clips) to get some new pickups for my MIM strat. I was tired of the standard HSS pickups, so I went out and bought a set of Custom Shop 54s. I pick up the guitar tomorrow, I can't wait!

I'll let you know how it is when I get them. Anyone else have these that can share anything about them?

You're getting a bonafide, Pre-CBS sounding set. I'm sure you'll really enjoy them, especially since you are moving away from the ceramic magnets of the OEMs.

Lots of luck with them!

Thanks Martian, I can't wait to hear that vintage sound.

I was supposed to get them today, but the store isn't open for some reason, I'm not sure why...

While we're on the subject of the original pickups, do you happen to have any info on my guitar? It's a 1999 MIM HSS strat, got it from my brother a few years ago, but I was wondering what kind of wood it has, things like that.

Thanks
-Dennis

You're welcome!

I can emphasize with your exasperation over the store being inexplicably closed.

The body could be poplar or basswood (with possible ply and/or lamination); the finish would be polyester. The electronics and the hardware are predominantly of Asian origin; medium frets, "C" shaped neck. It certainly would never be collectible but this is NOT to say by any means that it is junk. Aside from this, there's really not much more to say.

Awesome, thanks for the info, I've been wondering for a while what my guitar was made up of, but haven't been able to find anything on the internet.

And I knew it would never be a collectible, but it is a great guitar. It plays nicer than almost any I have tried, and with the new pickups I think it'll sound nicer too. I'm planning on keeping it for a long time.

They're amazing, definitely worth all the money, I'd recommend them to anyone.
