Hello,

Is my first time writing here! Is a pleasure!

I have a very importatn question for you (even for me. hehehe)

I bought a '69 custom shop pickups set and I will change it by myself. The question is, How can I recognice which is the bridge pickup, and which is the neck pickup? I'm assuming that the pickup in the middle of the box is of course the middle position pickup.

Thank you in advance!

Welcome!

The CS 69s pickups are not position specific. They are ALL made to the same specs just like they were back in 1969 where there was no differentiation between a neck, middle or bridge pickup. So, any one of your three can go in any one of the three positions.

Oh I see!

I asked because I changed already, and I found that the middle and neck possitions sound much more bassier than the bridge one, which sounds too much bright. So, do you think I can try to change the possitions? I mean, put the neck pickup in the bridge possition and the bridge pickup in the neck. What do you think?

Thank you for your prompt reply! It was fast!

You're quite welcome.

To do what you propose would be a waste of time as all 3 pickups are identical. No matter how you switch them around, that is the sound you will get from whichever one in whichever position. In part, this is how a Stratocaster was originally designed.

So, my very bright sounding bridge position is very common right? I'm using a Fender super champ XD, which is very bright by itself too...

Yes, as it was originally intended to be.

I wired my bridge pickup to one of the tone knobs, it helps to control the brightness. My neck and middle pickup are both wired to the other knob.

A most excellent suggestion! librarecord, this will surely tame some of those highs.

It can also be done the other way around too, where the lower tone pot controls the bridge and middle pickups and the neck pickup is left stock with the upper tone pot controlling only it.
