I'm thinking about replacing the pickups in my '92 Strat. The stock ones are too bass heavy for me. I've played with the pickup heights and eq quite a bit but I'm still having the same problem.
I mostly play through tube amps that are 40-50 watts. I have a '60's Traynor Bass Master, a '70's Garnet Rebel Deluxe and a Traynor YCV40.
I play mostly lower gain music like 60's early 70's rock, blues.
My Strat has an alder body and a rosewood board. It also has TBX on one tone pot.

So I guess my question is; which Fender pickups have a good balanced tone with decent outuput?

Maybe something noiseless? or with a reverse wound middle pickup?

Thanks

This type of question gets asked a lot where the answers, all valid and sincere, are as numerous, varied and at times, contradictory as there are stars in the sky.

Without outright suggesting, I will say this: Familiarize yourself with the various pickup sets which Fender makes, designed to sound like the pickups they put in their Strats in specific years past. From there, investigate what year Strats the guitarists in the music you enjoy were using. For example, if you like Hendrix's sound, then Fender's Custom Shop 69 set might be a possibility for you.

I'm not asking for anyone to tell me which pickups I should use in my guitar specifically. Of course every guitar/setup/style etc. is different. I'm also not trying to sound like Hendrix or any other player. It's also hard to choose specific pickups without playing every single set...

So I'm asking for advice from people with experience who have played with different pickups and can give me some perspective as to which pickups have an even tone or may be brighter than my stock '92's.

Ex. Texas specials tend to be (bright, dull, dark, etc.) as compared to ___

I've read reviews on several sets, but most of the responses are "these pickups are the best ever" or something vague like that, so I'm sure someone can give me some more useful information.

Thanks

The Vintage Noiseless Pickups I had in my Strat were very bright. Too bright for me. In fact, I went back to my stock pickups. I have Texas Specials in my Squier and I think they're the best pickups in the world, but they have a lot of mid range and they sound really fat. They may not be your best bet. Custom Shop 69's are very good, and they do more than just Hendrix. You might want to check them out. Tex-Mex pickups have a very punchy vintage tone which is fairly bright, they don't sound like Texas Specials to me, so they'd be another good option for you.

If you have already tried dropping the bass sides of your pickups and want a set with a brighter sound try listening to some Tex-Mex, CS 54s or 57/62s.

Thanks for the info.
I think I'll search for some youtube clips of the '69's and Tex Mex pickups.

Check out this site:

You can check out his pickups and listen to online samples.

This guy winds his own pickups and will work with you to develop a pickup that suits you and what you want for tone. I've got a set of '59s in my Strat and love them. After hearing my pups, one of my friends purchased a set of '67s from him. They sound amazing. Very chimey. They're under $150 as well which is hard to beat for custom wound pups. Send him an email and see if he can help you find what you are looking for.

Well one thing is your TBX control working and cutting the Bass when turned off center? Also are planing on keeping the TBX?

There are plenty of pickups out there Kinman has there Woodstock's and Marvin's there are so many others out there, Klein pickups one of my favorites (Pro50's and 63's) and don't forget Lollar there good pickups.
I have used all of these brands.
