Let me start off by saying I do like the 57 62 original pups that come stock in this axe, I like them quite a bit actually. After finding the sweet spot, I am pretty satisfied with the tone, nice and stratty. That being said, I feel like some things could be better :| The string clarity is good but I've heard clearer :| It quacks nice but it could be quackier :| And the bridge pup just sounds weak to me :| Tried different amps, pedals, setups, tubes, toyed with every lil knob I could toy with, but to no avail >_> Still felt like somethin was missing.

So its PU swap time  Never swapped pups in a strat before, so I'd figure I'd ask the experienced to share their experiences so I don't go blowing off mah hard earned $$ on $#!+. I'm basically looking for something similar the 57/62s, just with more clarity, more quack, and a hotter bridge pup :? I'm currently considering a SD SSL-1 for neck and middle and SSL-5 for the bridge or something similar.

Any feedback is very appreciated. I was just hoping maybe somebody might have traveled this road before and could give me some good directions before I just wander aimlessly into the world of aftermarket pickups :?
Thanks,
Capo

Your choices are almost perfect! You'd be better off with the SSL-2 in the neck and middle and the SSL-6 in the bridge combo due to both these models having the flat pole pieces. Although you'll surely achieve your purpose with the SSL-1 / SSL-5 combo, you will get and even better string separation, response and sustain out of the SSL-2 / SSL-6 combo than if you used their staggered counterparts. Contrary to popular belief, flat pole pieces 'pickup' the strings more evenly than flat pole pieces; this is especially true with bends.

Flat pole pieces didn't even cross mah mind, I always figured they were staggered o_O
SSL-2 and SSL-6 sound perfect right now, but of course I'll be the judge of that when they're in mah strat

Thanks Martian, you truly are the master of the art of tweaking ^^
