OK i have one of the fender Starcasters..... i could just get a strat but wondering would it be cheaper to get all strat parts put on than getting a whole new guitar... Also will the standard Strat tremelo bar work with a starcaster?

Depends on the overall quality of the particular unit - Starcasters are erratic in that regard.
My body and neck were really good so all I had to replace were the pickups and pots.

Personally I would not put money into a Starcaster. It's a nice guitar for a beginner to find out if he/she really wants to learn how to play a guitar. If the answer is yes then I would move up at least to a Squier. And then you'
re on your way.

I would think it would be a lot cheaper in the long run to just get a Squier and you'll have an infinitely better guitar.

No to the tremolo bar.

I wouldn't bother even trying to fix up the starcaster,I'd just use it for experimenting on....being a starter guitar it most likely has a plywood body and no matter what you throw at it ,it will still sound flat and dull.
I have a late 80's squier strat that featured the same kind of body material...didn't matter what I did to it,just sounded like sh*t no matter what.....yeah so anyways i ditched the body and replaced it with one from a later year one made of mystery wood - way better.

It is a basswood body - and with better pickups they sound quite nice.
