I note that the two Jazzmaster pickups (Neck and Bridge) have different part numbers. But, are they actually identical?

Very often Fender will use an alnico V magnet in the neck pickup and an alnico II magnet in the bridge pickup. The pickups look identical, but the magnets are different.

Alnco V tends to be brighter sounding while alnico II is a bit mellower which often makes it a good choice for the bridge position.

The Re-issue Wide Range Humbuckers do the same thing with magnets.

They were that sophisticated in 1960 to know about the different properties of magnets? I don't think so.... I think the different part numbers might have come as a later design change, MUCH later.

Sorry man, I didn't realize it was a 1960. I should have read more carefully. The only other things that come to mind are the number of winds, or the pole spacing. Other than that I'm stumped!

The pole spacing is identical and the resistance is also so they are electrically identical at the very least...
