Hi, I own a fender highway one hss stratocaster and I would like to upgrade my stock humbucker with a dmarzio super distortion dp100. Is this pickup compatible with the humbucker slot in my strat?
Thanks, (sorry if this is a newb question)
Jay

Jay, welcome!

Yes, the DP100 is. However, on the left side of your pickguard, the OEM pickup has two height adjustment screws. A third hole of the same size would have to be drilled in between these existing two holes on the same line in order to properly mount the DiMarzio. The now, two 'outer' holes would obviously, remain visible and unused once the DiMarzio is installed. Make sure that when you get the DiMarzio that you get the, "F" spaced version.

Instead of drilling a third hole in the pickguard, another option is to drill and tap two holes into the mounting flang of the new pickup (assuming there's room for the two holes). This is pretty easy to do and will give the best looking result.

Unfortunately, the DiMarzio flange is triangular shaped and does not have any room for extra holes. Even if it were square, the shape of the OEM flange is rectangular in order to accommodate the distance of the two screws, far wider than the usual square flanges. The only other possibility would be to mount and secure a rectangular flange to the triangular one and then, mount the dual screws that way.

I thought that option (drilling two holes) might not be available.
I do like your idea about rigging up a flange with the double holes.
That would be pretty easy to do.

I have seen some pickups with wide flanges that have three holes: they have all mounting options covered!

I mounted a Dimarzio Super Distortion in my strat. What I did was drill the new hole in the pick guard to mount the humbucker. I left the other 2 screws from the existing pickup in the holes and screwed small washers and nuts on them(back side of pick guard). One side of the pickup has 1 screw and the other has 3 screws. I think it looks a lot better than having 2 holes in the pick guard. Good luck.
