I recently got a MIM Lone Star Strat (HSS) and the bridge humbucker (Pearly Gates Plus) isn't really doing it for me.

Problem is I can't find the exact measurements of this pickup and I have no way of accurately measuring it myself - the best I can do is a normal ruler in centimetres which isn't exactly great for the fractions of an inch that most pickup dimensions are given in.

I wouldn't care normally it's just I installed a Seymour Duncan trem-spaced JB humbucker in a ESP guitar once and that pickup was weird dimensions and required the guitar to be re-routed and all sorts. I really don't want to have to do all that again and I dunno what the Fender's pickup/pickguard dimensions are and what the bridge (usual 6-screw MIM bridge) needs so I want to get and check all the dimensions before I go ordering a replacement pickup.

Thanks in advance to anyone who knows what measurements I need.

Ace, welcome!

I have good news and good news. First, here's the measurements of Duncan Standard Spaced Humbuckers and Trembuckers:

(Click on the appropriate 'dimensions' description.)

Second, believe it or not, the Pearly Gates Plus is NOT a Trembucker. It is a 'regular' spaced Duncan.

Huh, thanks for that. I should have figured the PG Plus would be the same dimensions as the regular Pearly Gates. Serves me right for over-thinking things.

Good to hear about the spacing then, so any normal non-trembucker humbucker should fit the space. Will the pole piece spacing not be off though? Fender makes a point of specifying the 50mm spacing on the PG Plus to have proper alignment with the vintage vibrato bridge and other sites give mixed infomation about what spacing these types of bridges need. Can I assume since the PG Plus is made to normal humbucker dimensions that other regular humbuckers will have fine alignement with the strings too?

Due to patent rights, each manufacturer has to have a slight variation in the distance spacing of their polepieces, one from another. So, I cannot unilaterally say, EVERY manufacturer's standard polepiece spacing will perfectly fit. For example, DiMarzio's 'F' spaced HBs (their version of a Trembucker) is equivalent to Gibson's "T" (meaning bridge spaced) HBs. I would choose DiMarzio "F" spaced versions in your instance. (DiMarzio standard spaced HBs have a very narrow polepiece spacing.) So, now you know that standard Duncans and "F" spaced Dimarzios will work. Consequently, you might want to pursue their lines as I'm sure you'll be able to find something which fulfills your requirements.

Ace,

If/when you replace the PG plus let me know...I might be in a position to take it off your hands (for a fair price of course). :)
