Some of the silver dots on my pick ups (Jazz Bass) are a bit tarnished/rusty. Does anyone know what I can clean them with?

Welcome!

This is a bit of an annoying procedure but it gets the job done: You can use steel wool but keep in mind that it is magnetic as are the pole pieces (the silver dots) which you intend to clean. So, you'll have to masking tape off everything around them on the pickups to ensure that none of the steel wool gets into or clings directly onto the pickups. Once you've buffed the pole pieces back to an acceptable shine with the steel wool, you would use the sticky side of more masking tape to remove the magnetized steel shards from the pole pieces.

Many players opt to put a thin film of acrylic (clear nail polish being virtually the same thing) over the now clean pole pieces to protect and preserve them from tarnish and rust. This acrylic would not alter the tone of your pickups but here too, make absolutely sure the acrylic covers the pole pieces and does not come into contact with else.

Thanks Martian

I thought it might be something like that! I was hoping that someone made an amazing cleaning product that would do it with no hassle at all!

Cheers

Glad to help!

As to the amazing cleaning product, they do make them but if it seeps into the pickup from say, dripping down the pole piece(s), it will chemically fry the pickup. That's why I gave you the above method. It's dry and it's safe.
