I'm looking to buy some John Mayer signature "Big Dipper" pickups for my strat, but I can't seem to find anywhere to get them (aside from buying the John Mayer signature stratocaster). Can anybody tell me where to get them? Thanks.

BTW, I'm brand new to this forum, so I definitely appreciate any help. :D

Hi Wannab,

I think these PU's only come with the guitar.
Maybe in the future the'll be available as accessories.
I read some where these PU's had less midrange punch, ''Big Dipper'' :?:
Try less middle on your amp.

Yup these are exclusively available on the Mayer strat. You can't buy them anywhere else unless you find someone on ebay who has parted out a Mayer strat.

They do come up on ebay often with loaded pickguards from part-outs. They'll cost you though. They average about 400 bucks a set, just because people CAN charge you that much because you can't get them anywhere else.

Hey if I were you, rather than pay a premium for a loaded pick guard, which could well be fake anyway, I would get yourself on the fralin youtube channel and ask him how much for a custom set to big dipper spec, he will be able to match them pickups up no problem, and for less than $400 you get a custom set of handwound pickups that will sound identical for less money, I orded a set from him to get the mark knopfler tone, they were a Texas's special with a little less output, the ones that come in the mark knopfler signature are not what he uses, well they are, but his are with a touch less output than his signature, that's how he gets all that out of fase sparkle to his tone, the pup's with a little less output have way more sparkle than the original Texas special, and their is a big difference in tone when u have done a comparison like me, Lindy seem's to have a big knowledge on pickups, and he seem's to have a lot of inside information on what artists have their pickups tweaked too, probably down to the fact he has made a lot of set's for the artists, I know he has made some for mark knopfler

Welcome.

The Big Dippers are for the most part, underwound CS69s with slightly weakened magnets. Get a set of CS69s and don't raise them as high as you normally would on your pickguard.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.
