Hey guys, I'm trying to find a decent loop pedal. All I've been able to find really are the boss models, which look nice, but I've read some reviews saying that they sacrifice the tone a bit. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Here's the best advice you'll ever get:

Go play through and listen to anything you're interested in, buy what you think sounds cool, and don't ever read another "review" online again as long as you live.

If you read the internet, EVERY piece of gear "sucks tone" (which has become an official euphemism for "makes my guitar sound less like Stevie Ray Vaughn's"), every guitar modification "improves tone and sustain," every digital or active circuit sounds "sterile" or "compressed" (my favorite meaningless sounds in the Echo Chamber), and the goal of every guitarist is to make their guitar sound "true vintage" (I wonder which vintage sound they mean when they say that?).

But none of these things are true. It's just Cool Guy speed shop rap, the kind of stuff an intermediate guitar player can say and make beginner's think he really knows what he's talking about (really experienced players have to laugh when they hear it, because we all USED to yak that kind of line, but know better now).

All that said, if you don't like the Boss (when you HEAR it, I mean), then try the Line 6. I think it's grooooovy.

DigiTech Jamman with a higher capcity memory card is very nice. I enjoy mine, but wish I had the foot switch.

I have a boss loop pedal and it still sounds good. I use quite a few pedals when playing live, mostly boss and have never felt like I'm sacrificing my tone.

What duration of looping time are you looking for? They are quite different.

Ah, there must be a glimmer of truth here.

I have a Mustang IV modeling amp and a Strat that, even with N3 Alnico 2, 3, and 5 pus, satisfies my needs and playing (my desires may or may not be reached with the reality). I have my original 1966 drums like Keith Moon's, yet I don't sound like him without his skills and individual tweaking with the knowledge he took with him, and some hardware (think skins) has had major or minor changes. I have a Buddy Rich snare; but, do I sound like him? Fugget about it.

Hank Marvin doesn't sound like Jorgan Ingmann (not sure of spelling), but that didn't stop him. Good thing for all of us.

I have a longtime friend from my high school days, and while I can simulate the sound from a 1965 school dance in the auditorium, to be exact I would have to use his authentic original 1962 Strat and Bandmaster (both of which he still has). It would be even more accurate to play them in the same auditorium as I heard it in 1965. Or, I could, as others have, enjoy a simulation or close(r) version by buying or hotrodding the equipment.

Some qualities of an instrument and/or sound can not be reproduced, however. Think Stradivarius. Even Fender has limitations with the holy grail reproduction and, yet new can sometimes be fantastic depending on how you use and play your gear.

Music tracks label the artist not the instrument.
