I Used to play with the amp between 5 and 6. With the attenuator, I had the amp at 10 out of 12.

I think now being less loud, the speaker physically moves less air and travels less and therefore incures a loss of low frequencies.

Curiously, I dont seem to have issue with treble loss as some have reported.

Will play with settings tonight when I get home again. My simple circuit amp does not have a tone knob so I have a feeling I may need an EQ pedal, can anyone recommend a good one?

Well as far as eq goes i have a boss GE10 that is superb, sadly out of production but has memory slots and the ability to switch between memory or manual settings. Its the all time graphic to me
. All graphics are only any good in a effects loop, or they overload or diminish front end frequencies too much (alter your guitars tone not your amps tone).
I think your far better off balancing the volume, via attenuator and master volume to the amps eq/tone settings.

Ok, I lowered the amp from 10 to 8 and compensated by backing down on the attenuation. Was too much overdrive, it's better now and the tone is a bit better too.

There's only so much I can do, amp has no tone knob, only volume.

The search continues :)
