Both the Fat 50's and the 57/62's are fine sets of pickups (I have both, in various hot-rodded guitars). They have the requisite "quack" and "sparkle" as all quality Strat pickups should. The Fat 50's are especially useful for taming an otherwise overly-bright instrument such as one with a maple fretboard in combination with an ash body without resorting to adding a baseplate to the bridge pickup or modding the tone controls.

Neither set will dissappoint, HTH

You're quite welcome!

I wouldn't worry at all about the buzz as it truly is blown out of proportion these days.

I always use one of the aluminum pickguard shields (Fender P/N 0019699000, for '60 and later; or Fender P/N 0019640000, for the '50s guitars) when building or modding a vintage-type Strat with single-coil pickups. As well, twisting the wires together that run from the input jack to the control cavity also assist in taming the hum. These techniques work reasonably well.

Martian, I have a feeling most of the people complaining about buzz, or 60 cycle hum, tend to be low volume bedroom players.

once you are in a band, or even a jam situation, and music starts you'll never hear it.

Exactly!!! Besides, there's many a good frequency and complexities thereof to be lost once one goes humbucking.

Hey Pretty_Vacant, send me an email I have in my profile. I have a 1988 57RI you might me interested in, probably more affordable than you think.

As for the Blue Jr relic, I thought about one of those too, but that model is Made in Mexico, not that it's bad, just the regular Blue Jr (non-tweed) are MIA. Just an FYI.
