the bridge and neck work great but the duckbucker at the neck doesnt work at all

i tried putting my headphones at the pickups and nothing came out either

is there a way to test them without taking them out

"The bridge and neck work great but the duckbucker at the neck doesnt work at all" I presume you mean the bridge and middle?

"i tried putting my headphones at the pickups and nothing came out either" With all due respect, I don't have a clue what this statement means.

There are ways to test pickups without removing them. The easiest way is to set your toggle to only that pickup, turn your pots on 10, plug the guitar in and then jiggle the pickup's leads. This may or may not disclose the problem if it works intermittently. If it continues to not work at all, you can test the DC resistance of the pickup from the pickup's appropriate eyelets with a Volt-Ohm Meter. If you don't get a normal readout then you have your answer. If you do get a normal readout, then that pickup not working at all is merely a symptom. Meaning, the pickup could very well be fully operational if it was correctly wired to properly functioning components. Of note is the fact that Duncan pickups are well made and usually not prone to crapping out under normal use. I suspect there is a wiring issue which is the real cause of your pickup not working.

oh sorry about the headphone thing. i found that you can put your headphones on the pickups and you can haer the music through the amp. didn't work on the neck one.

sorry for the really dumb questions but what are the pickups "leads" and "eyelets"

also i found that it does work, it's just very quiet. when i put my amp and guitar volume to max, the pickup is just barely audible.

thanks for th ehelp

You're quite welcome. Remember though, the only question which is, "dumb" is the one not asked.

Leads are the wires coming from the pickup which attach to other electrical components in the guitar; eyelets are where the a pickup's coil wire begins and ends and are placed in a hole (eyelet) where they are soldered to the leads.

If your pickup sounds very weak, you either have a broken coil wire or a very bad connection elsewhere in the circuit.

Just out of curiosity: With the weak pickup, are the red and white wires connected together and insulated? Also, are the green and bare wires soldered to the back of a pot and the black wire soldered to the pickup selector switch? This is the correct 'standard' wiring for the Duncan.
