I'm considering installing a mini hummer in the neck of one of my Teles. Anyone ever done this? Opinions?? Got a suggestion for a brand of pickup? Does Fender have something? Thanks for the help--any and all comments are appreciated!

Fender's Hot Rod 52 Tele features a Seymour Duncan Mini HB in the neck. I have a Tele that I put a GFS Mini-HB in the neck of...I like the GFS, but have not had any experience with the SD Mini HBs...

I have Dimarzzio fast tracks in 2 of my teles .A fast track 1 in the neck and a 2 in the bridge. They have 3 times the out put of a stock single coil and give some nice crunch and ripping leads in a classic rock vibe.Check em out.

You'll see many of these if you do a search through the Telecaster area above this area. IIRC, Brad even has one...or had one?

I've installed mini-HBs in Teles using Gibsons, DiMarzios and Duncans. The DiMarzios and the Duncans were their respective vintage models. I thought all three brands sounded quite nice, surely better than any OEM Tele pickup I've ever heard in the neck position.

Of note is the fact that a lot of people simply like the look of the mini-HB too.

The overall tonality of all three brands that I've used is most similar with the chief difference being in the midrange. The DiMarzios have the most, the Duncans have the least. The one superior feature of the Gibson (aside from the midrange being right in between the DiMarzio and the Duncan) is the fact that only the Gibson has a row of adjustable polepieces which really do help tailor the sound; the other two have solid covers so this cannot be an option, especially because of the internal design. The one superior drawback of the Gibson is that it only has a single conductor lead whereas the other two have the four conductor lead. So, if any kind of coil splitting or series/parallel options are required of the Gibson, it would have to be taken apart and rewired for and with the four conductor lead.

Admittedly, I don't concern myself with the vast majority of import brands so I can't comment on them to any tangible degree.

i played a light ash tele at one of my local stores, it was used and had a dunc mini hb in the bridge. i played thru a 112 hughes and kettner matrix and it was extremely defined. great mids. punchy punk rock. creamy blues. had bite for SRV solos. it was great. im not sure about the neck, i think it was stock. it sounded noisy (hum) so thats all i base that assumption on. i liked the mini bucker. the only reason i didnt buy that tele then and there.. (it was only $400 and it perfect condition) was bc i had just paid my rent... and after the next paycheck came it was already gone.

so what i mean to say... get a s.duncan mini bucker for it. it'll wail for years! or check out Lindy Fralin pickups too... i played an old american series tele w/ both lindy fralins. very nice pups also.
