and had the pickups replace with a new set of Texas Specials - wow! If you do the same, have your tech also replace the pickup switch with a 4-way instead of the stock 3-way switch - you get a new setting that gives you an incredible sound & still looks stock. The new pickups have breathed new life into my 40 year-old Tele. Fender advertises these pickups as their best, and believe me, they are - forget Duncans, install these once your originals drop dead from age.

I've been thinking about getting some different pickups in my AmSe tele. Could you describe the sound a bit please?

Sure - their made by Fender's Custom Shop & provide increased output in any setting, yet the tone remains warm, classic Tele. The midrange is excellent - better than my dying originals were providing; the neck pickup is particularly sweet, and the bridge pickup solo, with lots of reverb & a delay pedal, gives you any sound you want from country to Dick Dale. Invest in the four-way pickup switch (also made by Fender) which gives you the option of running the pair either in series tone (factory) or parallel, which gives you a heavy, hard rock sound that your normal Tele needs some help providing - adn the switch looks stock, so I call it my "secret weapon." I also had my tech replace my fading tone pot with a push-pull pot for tone boost; again, it's under the original knob, so no one knows you've got that sound option until you use it. Hope that helps - good luck.

Wow, those are some really, really nice upgrades! If you don't mind I'll probably upgrade my Tele in a similar way, steal some of your ideas.
