I was just curious as to which pups are the most popular amoung the wide variety that are offered ?

I like several types, but favor the CS69s.

So...which ones do YOU like ?

I think the most popular Strat pickup set is likely the Texas Specials, though they are not my favorite.

I too like the CS 69, but only as a neck and middle pickup. The Custom 54 bridge pickup is perhaps the best Fender bridge pickup they make. It's just perfect, and not overwound like a Texas Special. Adding this to a pair of CS 69s makes a great Strat set. If you need a RWRP middle pickup, then substitute the Fat 50s middle pickup for a really nice calibrated set of Strat pups.

But then, my set of Abby Masterwounds is in a class by itself. Only 300 sets of these exist, but if you get a chance to play one, don't miss out. Amazing tone from these. Bigger and bolder than the CS 69, and you actually get a modern pole stagger. I really dislike the Fender vintage stagger.

+1 on the modern rather than vintage stagger and I've heard about the "Abby Masterwounds" but haven't had the opportunity...yet...to experience the tone of them.

I really like the fat sound of the CS 69's in the neck/middle position and the jangle you get in both the in betweens. I did give up the CS69 in the bridge. I do miss that pickup with the more drive setting on my tweed HRD amp, but I gave that up to install a Dimarzio Super Distortion stacked Humbucker in the bridge. Now when I use the bridge setting and my Marshall amp this thing really throws out some heavy distortion. I feel my Strat is more suited to any style of music now.

Lace pickups are fab - as well as a great sound, it really seems to make a big diference to sustain ('cos of no magnets damping the strings)

I agree. I have the Lace Sensor Hot Golds in 4 of my Strats and they are amazing pups. They can do everything so well. Below is a recording I made a few years ago with a new set of 3 Hot Gold Lace Sensors...

Hey Mark, that's a great recording - superb sound and great technique... I wish I was half that good!

Is it a pro studio recording, or a home setup? Sounds great!

Cheers,
Paul

Thanx. It's just a cheap mono home recording made with a $25 Radio Shack mic and Windows Sound Recorder. I seriously need to upgrade my recording equipment. I have since added a mixer and a pair of Shure mics which has helped, but i still record in mono. Not exactly sure which direction to go...

Here's another recording I made with Hot Gold Lace Sensors. This time it's the Dually/Single/Dually set in a Strat...

Hi

New to the Forum. I've got to go with Vintage Noiseless. I had them installed in my American Strat about 5 years ago, and I love them. I still remember the first chord I played with them - much better than the stock American Pups.

My Upgraded 2006 Highway 1 has the stock pickups in it and they are just fine for me.
My 1986 MIJ '72RI has a set of SR's from WCR www.crcoils.com which are absolutely fabulous!!!!!
