Hey. I just traded around for a MIM 60's Strat, but basically none of the electronics appear to be stock, and they currently have some really lame (IMO) GFS Texas Specials in them. I was wondering if anybody could advise me as to the most efficient ($$-wise, especially  ) way of gutting this Strat and starting over. I'm thinking loaded pickguard, but I'm having trouble finding inexpensive ones w/ decent pickups. I'd prefer '57/'62s or Fat 50s or maybe a Noiseless set - just something vintage-y w/o having that weird midrange thing that Texas pups or the '69s have. (Not a big fan of the midrange or gain bump at the pickup stage; it's lots easier to add gain later than tone, in my experience). I'm not entirely opposed to putting stuff together myself if I have to, but I'm not too handy w/ a soldering gun, so I was really hoping to get away w/ just soldering the ground  :D
Thanks!

You sound like you are ready for SCNs.

The pickups you mention are not inexpensive models. The ones that are in the guitar ARE inexpensive models.

A lot of people like the GFS pickups (calling them good values and some of the best inexpensive pickups available). Have you given them a chance? Try to play them for a while is my suggestion, perhaps lower them, a lot. Then adjust your amp accordingly. You might end up liking them.

01GT eibach: I don't think I've ever played through the SCNs, but I do know they are more expensive :( Not 100% sure they'd be worth the extra cash. Maybe I should drop by a Guitar Center (*spits*) or something and play something American, eh.?.

orvilleowner: I've been playing through them for a while (weeks/months?), and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like these GFS pups. I'm not sure if it's b/c they are on the inexpensive end or if it's just b/c they're modeled after pickups that I typically don't like much, but either way, I don't really like them. I did try messing around w/ the height a little, and that helped slightly, but it kinda' just comes down to not being sing-y enough, ya know.?.

And to everyone, I should've been clearer, I would prefer to get all new electronics as well as new plastic parts. This is why I'm looking for LOADED PICKGUARDS :D

Thanks for the advice so far, though.

I don't know what you are looking for. My suggestion is to keep lowering them, a lot. A lot. That's what helps Texas Specials. But maybe you are a high output pickup kind of guy, if so I doubt you'd be happy with the 57/62s or the Fat 50s --- not fat enough.

Keep an eye on Ebay or Pickers Parts for a loaded pickguard.
Have fun looking. Good luck in your quest.
