Anyone out there think that the 08 MIA Strat Stock PUPS sound like CS 54 PUPS.

Not sure but if anyone has a link to some video/audio to compare that would help.

If so then why spend $150 on CS 54?

I'm thinking about changing out my stock pups and putting CS54's in my 08 MIA Strat.

I just wanted to get some feedback from others who have them.

I really don't like doing comparisons with sound files on the net.

Also can't find the actual specs of my stock pups "I'm curious".

I'm presently looking around at different shops to test drive a Strat which has them to get an idea.

what bug's me is that a seasoned muso friend of mine thinks they sound the same... So why should I pay $190 au for possibly the same tone.

Any help welcome.

Cheers.

What exactly is the model of the MIA strat you have? That would help determining what pick up comes stock in it! :)

Your guitar came with Alnico V pick ups installed in it. Is this what you needed to know. I can't tell you about the cs54s you asked about as I've never owned them. Good luck! :) Nice looking guitar BTW!! 8)

Thanks heaps, yeah when I checked the specs on the Fender Product page it only states the following. 3 American Strat® Single-Coil Pickups.

I'm happy with the sound, I'm just trying to justify my need to swap out the original stock pups by buying Custom Shop PUPS such as the 54's.

I'm also being concious of my strong addiction of thinking I can buy every guitar on earth... Fenders.

The first thing I do is change out the pickups, even if the ones on the axe are awesome. I don't duplicate purchase on pups though.

My pickup collection is rapidly growing by doing this. It's nice to have different tone options hey...

the pups that have now drawn my curiosity are CS54's. This is because of Buddy Holly "LEGEND".

thanks again, what are your thoughts on the Alnico V pups in the 08 am standards.

Cheers.

I think they are fine pick ups and would I be you I would leave the guitar as is. But.. that's your decision to make. I have the same pick ups in a 08 MIA Tele and I like them. Good luck in what ever you do!

Yeah, I will leave the lovely as stock...my other Strats I can tinker with...

I agree, This will be the one Strat that will stay as is.

thanks for your time though, After a good week thinking about it I have concluded my thoughts with "leaving it alone".

After a good 30 years from now I can hand it down to my two Sons and by then it will be a relic in original specs.

I hate contemplation....it's Evil...

I've got a Classic 60"s Strat. Pickups in it sound really good and measure about 5.7K ohms, similiar to the 57/62 pickups. I did replace them with Custom 54 Strat pickup set. The difference is the 54's had more bass response overall and a little more high end attack in the bridge. They measured 6.0K, 6.0K and 6.3K. Little louder also.

With modern technology nowadays, I wouldn't be surprised if MANY a 'stock' pickup in a premium guitar was synthetically designed and manufactured to sound like certain prized pickups of the past. Besides, once the specs are finalized, again, with modern technique, it wouldn't cost any more than any other stock pickup to make it. I suspect this is why so many players (myself included) genuinely like the OEM pickups in the more recent American Fenders.

Unless someone has a fully equipped lab with all sorts of electronic testing equipment, complete with old pickups and new OEM specimens to A/B my theory, such things either way shall remain proprietary secrets.

I like them for the most part too. Some of the stock pickups have just a tad too much winding.
But that's nothing that a guy couldn't fix on his own if he wanted to take the time. Easier to just lower the pickups some.
