Today I took my Strat out to play in a new environment. Until now I've never tried my Texas Special equipped Squier with any music that was particularly high gain. I used it instead of my Tele or Les Paul (which is what I normally use to songs with a lot of distortion) on a few hard rock and punk rock songs we were doing in my band. The neck pickup sounded too muddy, but the middle pickup, the bridge pickup, and both together sounded great! A very pleasant surprise for me there. :) So far I haven't played any style the Texas Specials didn't sound good with.

If it got muddy using high gain it may be adjusted to high. Try lowering the pup just slightly.

Come to think of it, the neck pickup does seem a little high. You just need a screwdriver to fix it, right?

Yes. Turn the adjustment screws counter clockwise. Make sure to turn both screws the same amount of times.

I personally find that Texas Specials don't agree too well with much distortion....that being said they are still kick $@! pickups...my current favorites produced by Fender.

Cool, I'll do that later today.
