Hi,
I was wondering, if pickguard made from wood would improve guitar's sound.
What you think?
Maybe it is already done and I don't know about it?
Thank you

I'm pretty sure someone has tried it. I have not heard of any tone reports on it though.

I was thinking that way :
if we assume, that holes covered by a pickguard are small sound chambers, then maybe using wood as a material would improve the sound (at least the sound of unplugged guitar).
However, I don't know how big - if any - would be the difference.

Also using wood in tremolo cover is interesting.

I don't think it'd make a huge difference but there'd certainly be a little. I saw some wooden Jazz Bass PGs on ebay once, they're pretty nice and the seller claimed they did improve the sound - he is the seller however ;)

I've seen various wood pickguards around the internet. Most were being sold for their looks and not their sound.

I saw a wooden pickguard (Mustang) last week in one of those big autograph stores in Las Vegas. It was supposedly signed by Stevie Ray and going for many $$$. It was split in all the areas where the wood was thinned, like around the pickup routs and the screw holes.

I suspect the tonal changes 'wood' be minimal, but, if that's what you're after, every little bit might help. If you painted it though, you might lose whatever you gained by going with wood. It would sure look sharp if it matched up to the same body wood.
