Hey there, can anyone tell me if there is anywhere I can purchase the Enforcer Humbucker thats in the Wide Range casing or would a regular one be able to be fitted into the casing of a Wide Range?

Also, does ANYONE do a replacement humbucker of this size?

Finally, if I upgrade the pots on my 72 Tele Custom RI will the Wide Range sound better?

Thank you!

The Wide Range Humbucker's bobbins and polepiece spacing are different than that of the Enforcer's. Also, the mechanical construction between the two are significantly different. So, that's a no to your first two questions.

Seymour Duncan's Custom Shop makes them but you're going to pay dearly for each. From what I understand, it's $160+ per pickup, plus shipping, and a 6 week wait. Oftentimes, they must rebuild and rewind your existing pickups.

If you already have the full sized, CTS pots OEM in your 72 RI, replacing them will accomplish nothing.

I would suggest you obtain a pair of humbuckers which you really like (which may or may not be Fenders) and to have a new pickguard custom made for the dimensions and mounting hardware of these replacement pickups. This way, you'll still have all your OEM stuff still intact, everything is reversible, it will save you at least $150 by not going the Duncan Custom Shop route and, you won't have to suffer their wait time.

What about the wide range humbucker on the J5 three pickup Tele?
Is that not an Enforcer?

Thanks for the help!

That is an Enforcer, not a Wide Range HB. They may say the Enforcer is a, "wide range" humbucker (note the smaller case 'w' and 'r'). However, the outright model, "Wide Range" (note the upper case 'W' and 'R' here) has the Fender cover with the Fender logo on it and the 3 adjustable screws per coil.

Glad to help.

Where can I get the Enforcer from the J5 with the wide range style cover though?

I just want a replacement for the WRH without altering the look of my 72 Custom.

To the best of my knowledge, you can't.

This guy has awesome replacements for the Re-issue Wide Range Humbucker. You send them your pickup and they modify it by adding real threaded magnets to replace the steel pole screws. The sound clips are pretty impressive.

Are you talking about real Wide range pickups? I don't think they have made them in like 25 years. The RI's that have been made are just other fender humbuckers in wide range cases. The MIM ones are filled with wax to fill the case. Now I have not seen any custom shop ones so I am not sure about them. I do know the Japanese and Mexican made ones are nothing like Lover's wide range design.

Check the guy's website. They're modifying the current Fender Re-issue wide range humbuckers and they sound really good.
