finished sanding down to the wood and after applying the stain and let it set i have areas were it doesnt look like the stain did anything still kinda looks like the sanded down wood? is there a way to get rid of that. its blotchy all over.

should i have sealed it before staining?

take a look at reranch.com (guitar re ranch), see specifically neck refinishing and you may get back on track, you can always start over if you have too but it should be worth it in the long run
