Hey Guys I've got a Fender mexican standard and the stock pickups in this thing really drive me crazy. I've been wanting to get new ones for some time now but i don't know what to get. Any recommendations for good single coil pickups to buy?

Before you go spending money on pickups have you tried playing with the pickup heights?

Do a search for "Nickel Method" for some height adjustment tips.

OK. There are plenty of companies making Strat pickups if you decide to go aftermarket. I recommend Bill Lawrence www.billlawrence.com or WCR SR's from www.crcoils.com

Mate I paid $500 au for a Vintage Cream Maple neck MIM Strat. I ditched the factory PUPS straight away.

I won myself a set of Custom Shop Texas Specials off of Ebay and installed them.

It sounds AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.

I love it because it gives me that SRV strat Spank and I just about play it more than my 2008 MIA Standard Strat which I seriously love.

Go For It!!! Change em.

Ohh another set of PUPS that are really hot are Tonerider Pure Vintage Strat PUPS. Really cheap at $129 au. they are also AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.

cheers.

Bill Lawrence seems to have a very limited selection of pickups from what I've seen. I'm using Seymour Duncan's right now and they sound pretty good. I also have some Lindy Fralin's and some Fender Custom Shop pickups.

Unlike other pickup makers Bill Lawrence pickups are not made until they are ordered.

just got a set of special ordered under-wound Fender 57/62 pickups for my custom John Mayer Black Relic, and they just sing. if you are going for blues, I'd take 57/62s over Tex. Specials any day (Those were actually what I had in it stock)
