I got one of these used to put in my 3-pickup tele. I wired it in but get no sound.

The diagram I got off the internet said:

Green - hot, to switch
Black and white - solder together and tape off
Red and bare - ground

Is this incorrect? Any ideas?

Are you sure this is a Fender pickup? The color coding suggests it is either a DiMarzio or a Duncan.

Yup. Fender Noiseless.

I'm not sure that the actual CODING is right. I just know that those are the colors used. Which color is which lead I could be entirely wrong about, but that's what it says about Fender humbuckers on the Duncan site. However, this isn't a true humbucker, since it's a stacked single.

Excuse my manners, I neglected to welcome you!

A Duncan humbucker wiring diagram is not appropriate for a Fender Noiseless pickup.

A stacked single coil (premising you mean a coil on a coil) can indeed be a true humbucker, depending on how the coils are wired.

With a Fender Noiseless, the yellow wire is hot, the rest are ground.

Thank you for welcoming me. :)

Duncan has a diagram that lays out the colors for several other company's pickups, so it's not a DUNCAN diagram. But it still doesn't seem to be correct.

The issue is that there isn't a yellow wire on mine.

The seller claimed it was a noiseless. It's the stock pickup from a Fender American Deluxe Tele (sometime between 1998 and 2004).

Does the pickup read, "Noiseless" on the top of it?

I could be wrong but I don't remember Fender changing the color code of their Noiseless pickups.

Maybe when the seller said it was, "noiseless", he meant it was humbucking.

It doesn't say anything on the front. It's a stacked pickup, though. He said it was the stockie in his American Deluxe.

Sounds like he's lied to you mate, sorry. Fender noiseless pickups have clear lettering on the top of the pickup. SCN's have scn molded into the top of the cover.

Well, what came stock in these guitars, then?

Whatever it is, it has to be of fair quality. I've never seen a cheapo junk brand make stacked noiseless pickups.

I messaged the seller. Straight-forward, very nice guy, I doubt he'd lie. Here's what he said:

"I pulled it out of a '99 Fender Dlx tele that I was told was stock & the guy had the receipt showing that its factory work even w/ the Bigsby. I also pulled the neck pickup which is a 'black dove' P90 and put antiquity's in, guitar shown below. So, I'm assuming its a fender... and that he never changed it... though there are no markings on it. But, i've also pulled a lot of other american fender pickups & seen no markings.

I tested the pickup & it was good... wanna say the DC reading was 8. something. But after I tested it I clipped & stripped the leads back because there were pretty haggard... I can't recall what was tied together... but I remember writing it down & putting that pinout in the package w/ the pickup. You got that?!? The answer is there!"

The paper he included said "red + white" and "black" were the leads used, which I assume mean red and white are ground, black is hot? The other way around? But that leaves green and bare, and I thought bare was ALWAYS ground, but this would leave it as one of the split/phase coils that gets soldered together with the other leftover and taped off.

He even included a pic of the guitar after the Bigsby was installed. Atleast that's what I assume he meant, was the Bigsby was aftermarket...

The seller has stated that he was told the pickup was OEM. However and again, the evidence doesn't add up. I have a hunch that this is a Duncan pickup.

Join the red and white wires together, make the black wire your hot wire and run the green and bare wires to ground.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Any idea what came stock on that model guitar?

You're welcome.

Either a Vintage Noiseless or an American Standard, later called a Delta Tone.

FWIW, if my suspicion is correct, you have a much better pickup with the Duncan.
