Okay, so I bought this Strat secondhand. It has three single-coils, the mid-boost circuit run from the bottom tone knob, it's definitely made in Mexico, and it's midnight blue, which is not a standard color for all that many Strats; all of these things lead me to believe it's a Powerhouse Deluxe Strat. It had what appeared to be a dummy pickup wired inside, I assume for use as an internal humbucker. The Fender wiring diagrams and my experience with the guitar seem to confirm this. However, this internal dummy pickup pretty much just died a couple days after I bought the thing, causing the guitar to sound plinky and weak, just plain terrible. I took the dummy out and the guitar sounds fine now, except that it's got a violent hum now that it's no longer humbucked. I don't see any way to order a replacement dummy pickup on the website. Is there somewhere I can order one? Or is there perhaps another in-guitar system that would be an acceptable substitute? I don't much like the idea of using a noise gate pedal.

Welcome!

(Why do so many people start their sentences with, "Okay"?)

Okay (sorry, I couldn't resist), what you have to do now is to either see if you can get that dummy coil repaired or find another single coil pickup, reverse wound to that of the 3 in your guitar with the same DC resistance as each of the three in your guitar (+/- 10%). Remove the magnet(s) from this replacement pickup and install it like the original dummy coil was. Aside from this or a noise gate, there's an over $200 gizmo out there which mounts inside your guitar. Frankly, I for one, would never pay that kind of $$$. YMMV.
