A picture is worth a ...

Image

An old Candy Dish is used to hold picks and such.

There are Fender Thins, Mediums and Heavys.

There are a few different ones in Medium and Heavy from Dunlop and Planet Waves and others.

And the nice new clear V-Picks - that is the Fab Four pack minus the small pointed one which is lost on the floor somewhere

And of course, my old Dunlop Brass Slide :P

I use four types of picks. The first one that is a really good pick is the dunlop tortex. The second is a Guitar Center pick. The third is a candy apple fender california clear. The fourth that I just got are Snarling dogs brain picks. Those are nice and have a good texture because I tend to drop mine a lot.

I started playing guitar with really thin picks... right now I use the medium size picks ..... I figured harder picks go really well with heavier gauges since the string vibrate way better heh e

I use heavy Picks. I hate it when the Pick bends while picking.

Ditto on the V-Picks. I was amazed with the tone you get once you get used to them. Almost like getting some new spiffy stompbox!

I was taught by my first guitar teacher the thicker the pick the better. I am also useing 1mm Ultex picks and surpisingly very rarely break a string.

Extra thin when playing acoustic and extra thick for electric. Have been wanting to try the Surfpicks but at over $10 apiece I keep putting it off. They are supposed to be made out of some rare wood that gives great tone plus "sticks" to your fingers when you start sweating. Anyone try them?

Depends on what I'm going for. Light flimsy picks for big strummy rhythm (especially acoustic parts), but for lead playing or tighter rhythm parts, I use either a .73 (Yellow) Dunlop Tortex Sharp (that pointy tip makes for very clean faster runs), or a .73 or 1.0 Dunlop Ultex (a plastic designed to feel and sound like real tortoiseshell... great string tone with very little "click" in the attack).

bigtstrat5... those 1mm Ultex picks are the bomb, are they not?

I'm a bit of a pick freak. Mostly Fender Mediums - the Abalone ones look cool. Lately I've been experimenting with different materials. I can't seem to put down my new ''Stuckey Lemmin'' Mojo pick. It's beautifully hand crafted from a 63 silver half dollar. Super-stiff obviously, with a clear , warm sound. It's surprisingly noiseless (not like playing with a coin) The pre-64 ones are 90% silver, I'm sure this has something to with the nice tone. It looks great too. My Brossard pick is in the mail - 10,000 yr old fossil ivory (ie Mammoth tusk). mmmm, I'll let you know. BB.
