The humbucker must have 4 leads to be able to wire up different configurations. Check out Seymour Duncans site or Stewmac for wiring options.

Yes but if the pickup doesn't have a lead with 4 wires, you have separate the link wires which join the coils and attach additional lead wires to them. This would be the case if the pickup only has a single hot wire or two phase wires and a ground.
