Hi,

I would like to ask, whether there is any difference in materials used on MIM and MIA Strats' tremolos?
Are they made of the same materials?

Thank you in advance,

Best Regards

Tomek

Very different. The MIM has the old-school "vintage" with six screws, while the MIA has a modern-designed "two-point" design.

Thank you very much for the reply.

Do you know if there are any differences in the quality of materials used in MIA and MIM tremolos?

I was wondering, whether replacing the tremolo that came with my guitar will improve the sound/sustain.

Thank you in advance,

Best Regards

Tomek

They are not interchangeable parts.

wilkinson make a 6 point trem that will fit both american and mexican strats. I fitted one to my MIM it helped sustain a bit and smoothed the tone of the attack and decay alot more.

If you have a pre-06 MIM, then you can upgrade the tremblock very easily. Fender went to a larger tremblock for the '06+ MIMs. You can get 'em off eBay (I got one for my '04 for $12).

The Mexicans come with a zinc block. The Americans come with a steel block. At least mine did.

Yes, I beileve that is true.

Prior to '06, MIMs came with a low-mass zinc-alloy block. Post '06, they came with a higher mass (i.e., much more of it) block, but made or the same zinc alloy.

Prior to '08, MIAs came with a steel-alloy block. Post '08, they still came with a steel-alloy block, but with higher copper content.
