I just installed some Texas specials on my MIM strat. They sound very trebly and twangy. I was wondering if this is normal or if there might be something wrong with the pickups. Didn't expect them to sound so thin and trebly.

In all the years Texas Specials have been out, I've NEVER heard this complaint, rather, just the opposite!

Notwithstanding...

If it were one of the pickups, I'd say there was definitely something wrong, but certainly not all three.

I presume that you've tried working your tone controls on the guitar with unsatisfactory results. Some may suggest changing your brand/gauge of strings, I find this quite unrealistic. So, let's keep moving: Ensure that all your pots are 250K. If they aren't, change them to all 250Ks. Premising that they are, try simply lowering the pickups a bit as this will make them more mellow. If this doesn't work, the next step is your amp settings. If you can't find equity with the amp, then there's a distinct possibility that Texas Specials are simply not for you as every pickup surely isn't for everyone.

Incidentally, welcome to the forum!

I have Texas Specials in my Squier Strat, and I didn't notice anything like that.

I have Texas Specials in my MIM Strat. They have a deep Blues tone and I use the 4th position on the pup selector switch.

Thank You Martian. Very helpful. I think the pots are 250k(stock MIM pots) I am not sure though. I will continue to tweak with the height and amp settings.
