I'm currently using Dimarzio Area 61 pickups in my Malmsteen Strat and they are pretty good but I considering trying some true single coils. I play classic rock with some metal thrown in. I use a lot of gain. Marshall Guvnor along with my 50 watt Marshall.

I'm thinking about trying the 57/62 pickups. I go through this phase every now and then when I just want to experiment with pickups. I think we all do. I've been playing my Les Paul for the last year and it's thick as molasses for everything. Too thick for many things.

Of course I'll have the hum issue but maybe it won't be that big of a deal in practice. Any of you familiar with these 57/62 pickups?

Many years ago I did use Fat 50's and Custom Shop 69's also. From what I remember they were fairly good.

I was considering Lindy Fralin Real 54's also.

I came across these PUPS online and ordered a set.

"Tonerider Pure Vintage" pick ups. www.tonerider.com

It's always been hard for me to look anywhere other than Fender but I think I'll give these a try.

They have a selection that are high output and are AU $129

The website has soundfiles so check em out.

Like I said, It's hard for me to go elsewhere other than Fender, but on this ocassion after hearing those PUPS I'll give em a go.

I'm still a Fender Man, Just recently picked up a set of custom shop Texas Specials. Can't wait to put them in #2 my 2003 Mexican Strat.

Let us know what you think.

I used the 57/62 pickups at very high gains for many years of heavy gigging and they never let me down, they are an excellent choice. The only thing you have to compensate for with your playing is a loud G string due to the high polepiece of that string on this model pickup (if you use an unwound G string, that is). As to the single coil hum, like I say over and over, 60 cycle hum never bothered me and once the band and I start playing, it's irrelevant.

I've heard the Fralins. They are really nice but I think the 57/62s are way more versatile for your stated stylings; a lot cheaper too.
