I recentlly installed a set of scn's on my tele and I seem to be getting some noise when I'm not playing. It sounds like 60cycle hum and when I touch any metal part of the guitar (bridge plate, tuners, strings, etc.) it goes away. There's no s-1 switching and I'm sure I wired everything correctly. The only thing I'm not sure of with the wiring is the black wire on the bridge pup. Yellow went to the 3-way switch, green to the vol pot, and one of the black wires to the vol pot. The other black wire and the solder lug are screwed on to the pup mount bolt nearest the high e string.

Where did I go wrong?

If the noise goes away when you touch something metal that tells me it is a grounding issue.
Without actually seeing the wiring it is hard for me to tell exactly where.
Did you get a wiring diagram with the pickups?
Have you checked for a cold solder?

I also thought it was a grounding issue, but didn't know where to go from there. I did get a diagram with the pups. It shows for the neck pup, white goes to switch and green and black to vol. pup. on the bridge pup it shows yellow to switch and green and black to vol. pot with the solder lug off to the side not noting what it mounts to. What the diagram fails to show is that the black wire on the bridge pup splits. From the bridge pup, the black wire goes to the solder lug and soldered to that are two black wires. As per Martians advice I soldered the longest of the two black wires to the pot and then wrapped the short wire around the lug and mounted that to the pup mounting bolt.

How do I know if I got a cold solder. I'm not the best at soldering, but I made sure that all my connections were shiny and everything is working the way it should be.

I would have to see it to tell for sure.

Hmmm.....

I don't have a camera to show you how I wired it, but does anyone have a link to a diagram with the correct way to wire these?

Also, will changing to 500k pots be recommended for these pups? Right now I've got 250's and a .022 cap.
