These are in my MIA Squire Stratocaster. They are probably the hottest PUPS I've heard. All the wires are plastic covered except the yellow one conecting the pots. The pots are 500k which I thought were the good ones but don't know since they're on a Squire. The pole pieces are stagered. I didn't want to take the black tape of the PUPS to see the winding. I bought this guitar back around 95 and I think it was built in/around 91. It's possible that who ever had this before me upgraded the PUPS but I bought it for $250 (which might have been to much then) so who knows. When I bought this I didn't know anything about guitars I just wanted one and this is the one I just happened to buy. I gotta say that I've grown to love this thing. Maybe someone out there can tell me what's up with the electronics. I've heard that the MIA Squires were just thrown together with whatever they had laying around in the American factory.

Are any ceramic pups any good. I know these probably aren't but are there any after market ones that are? I've always thought that the ceramic ones were cheap o's.

Although ceramic magnets are cheaper than say, alnico, that's why you will see most economy pickups with predominantly ceramic magnets. However, never automatically presume that all pickups with ceramic magnets are low end. Bill Lawrence for one, enjoys a thriving business as a premium pickup manufacturer and he uses predominantly ceramic magnets. Also, Fender, Duncan and DiMarzio (just to name a few) also use ceramic magnets in many of their most popular models too.

Usually ceramic bars are used in humbuckers, some of the best sounding PUs I have heard are ceramics: Bill Lawrence XL500, Dimarzio Super Distortion, Seymour Duncan Custom...all excellent designs.

For single coils, I think they are unusual, the only ones I know are the Lace power sensors and the SD hot stack.

Those look like stock '90s Squier pickups to me. I have a pickguard from a '95 Squier and it looks almost exactly like that one you have there.
