I just got a set of SCN's for my MIM tele and I'm stuck on the bridge pup.

The wiring diagram that came with it isn't to clear on what to do with the black wire from the bridge pup. It's the one that has the solder lug on it and then gets split into two wires. I'm not using S-1 switching, so do I solder both wires to the pot and mount the solder lug to the cavity or what?

If it helps I have all new pots and a 3 way switch. The install is a direct replacement for the orignal pups.

On the split black wire:

Solder the one wire to the back of the volume pot.

The other wire with the lug: Insert the pickup mounting screw through the hole for it in the top of the bridge plate (the one in the front, closest to the high E string). Next, mount that lug on the screw from underneath. Now, mount the spring onto the screw which will sandwich the lug still on the screw in between the spring and the bottom of the bridge plate. Lastly, install the screw into the pickup's base. What this does is it grounds the bridge, strings and machine heads.

Note that you can simply spin the lugged wire out of the way if it is interfering with the adjustment of the pickup's height or if it is too visible.

thanx martian.

the one question i have though is i don't have springs on the bridge pickup mounting bolts. Will this interfere with grounding the wire? all i have are the stock rubber pieces.

also, after mounting the bridge pup to the bridge plate, the pup is loose and extremely high. i can lower the pup, but it's loose in the bridge plate. is there any way to fix this?

You're welcome!

The rubber tubing pieces are what Fender issues as springs. You can double up with the rubber pieces if you have extra to take up some of the pickup looseness and/or switch from the rubber tubing to regular springs of and for a more appropriate length.
