As I've said a few times before: DiMarzio Virtual Vintage Area 67/58/61 combo. Absolutely perfect!

Just any low output Alnico pickup (with DCR of 6 ohms or less).

+1 for Texas Specials....they just seem to add a lot more tone and warmth to the sound. 8)

More specifics, please. I have heard the gold, but not the hot gold. Can you compare the two? What kind of sound did you get??

Difficult to say, it's been a long time since I played a Strat plus with gold laces.

Anyway, the hot gold seemed to me to have more signal and midrange, and the hot bridge (with a copper logo) is DEFINITELY hot, with high output, and fat sounding, not ear piercing like many bridge pickups I tried.

Definitely smoother than Dimarzios VVintages, clean, they are very fenderian, but distorted they give a creamy overdriven sound extremely peculiar. The only drawback is that they are a little more noisy than stacked humbuckers, but anyway evne through high gain the hum doesn't disturb very much.

I did not like my American Standard pickups as I could never get rid of the bridge icepick sound and like the Fat 50's on this guitar now. I also like the Custom 54's but this one I don't play very often The one I play the most often has the SCN's and I do like them.

I've used noiseless pick-ups for years while I was in bands. First I had Lace Holy Grails, and now I have Dimarzio Area 67, 58, and 61. I'm no longer in a band, so I'm not worried about noise anymore.

Because of that, I've decided to try out some "regular" pick-ups. My guitar tech has a set of 57/62 pups that he's selling at a great price, so those are probably being installed as I type this. He did let me try out another guitar with those pick-ups first, and I have to say that they do sound pretty good.

I've read reviews that said the 57/62 pups weren't so good with distortion. To demo them, my tech plugged the Strat into a TRRI with an OCD pedal for dirt. SWEET!
