I have a chance to pick up a Strat that was modified with Dimarzio pick ups but I mostly play blues. I`m not too familiar with these pups and was wondering if I could get a bluesy tone from them. The bridge has a Super Distortion, the middle is a Double Stacked Mini Humbucker, and the neck is an Evolution. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Frankly, the two full sized DiMarzios would NOT be my choice for any extensive Blues stylings. As to the middle pickup, exactly which model is it?

I don`t know which model the middle pick up is. But after hearing what you had to say I`m going to back away from the purchase. The guitar is beautiful and in natural wood but I want that Texas Special tone and I won`t be happy with it if I don`t get the sound I`m looking for. Thanks for your help...

There's no question that those 2 named DiMarzios will not get you anywhere near that Texas Special tone. Don't be too quick to back away though. The reason why I say this is because if you really like the way the guitar looks and plays and the price is right, you could always change out the pickups. Glad to help.

I wouldn`t be able to play this guitar before the purchase because its an ebay auction. But I don`t want to start modding the pick ups on it, there are a few other guitars up for auction that have the Texas Specials already in them. The reason I liked this one was because the body is natural wood grain. Must be the carpenter in me...lol..Thanks again for your help.

Well, my best advice would be to roll down the vol on the distortion or simply just put less gain to your overdrive, these are great pickups for any styles!

Because high output pickups pickup more harmonic content and more detail, they simply sound richer. Rolling down the volume or using less gain doesn't affect this and trust me, those are really quality pickups for whatever style.

If u still want them and u want blues pickups, then try the following:

Seymour Duncan:

59 model
Alnico 2 pro
Jazz model
Pearly Gates
Parallel Axis Blues Sarasceno

Dimarzio:

Air Classic Models
Bluesbucker
EJ custom
Paf Anniversary
Paf Classic
Air Norton
Air Zone

If you have trouble choosing, let me know :D
Otherwise, my best advice is to stick to those legendary Pickups and use less gain. Add a 500k volume pot to get the best out of them and see the difference.

I'm always ready to help bout pickups and strings
:D

For your stated stylings, you can't go wrong. Lots of luck with them!
