I damaged the cover on the neck pick-up of my AV 62 Tele while adjusting the truss rod so I bought a replacement and installed it last night. Getting the old cover off was a pain and there is a single tab on one side the goes into the bottom part of the PU that I just had to break off.

Anyhow, the new one is secured tightly by the two tabs holding it securely in place. Problem is that once I put everything back together my neck PU no longer works. I took everything back apart, checked all wiring connections, etc. and everything looks good, but my PU is dead.

What did I do? What should I look at? And worse case scenario, is it possible to get an exact replacement for this PU? If not then I'll be looking for recommendations for an aftermarket PU that's similar.

Thanks

You've probably snapped one of the less-than-hair-thin coil lead-out wires. May be fixable with care, maybe not. However, a vintage Tele neck pickup identical to yours is available from Fender:-

But only as a full set.

That's what I was afraid of. I saw those pick-up's, but are you sure they're the same? According to the specs listed the pick-up's are "Two ‘62 Tele® Custom Single-Coil Pickups (Neck & Bridge)".

Those pick-up's are certainly reasonable so if they're the same I'll buy the set? But, I would like to confirm they're the same. Can anyone monitoring this forum from Fender verify that these are the same?

I was considering getting a Don Mare to replace mine if I can'tget it to work. Just have to figure out which one of his neck pick-up's will be a good match for the bridge PU I have. I really like the brigde PU and really have no desire to replace it unless I have to.

Thanks for the help.
