Hey all
I have a clapton strat, but don't like the TBX tone at all. So I took it out, bought a 250k lin pot in for the tone with a 0.047uf capacitor, and wired everything up. Now my tone only works from 1-3 and does nothing from 3-10. Do I need to try a 500k pot or can I keep the 250k pot and try a 0.022uf capacitor instead?
Thanks very much in advance.

Or should I try an audio 250k pot for the tone instead? (its currently a normal linear pot)

Welcome to the forum! The man you need to talk to is zzdoc and he is on vacation this week! There are some other knowledgeable posters on the subject and maybe they will see your post. I can't help but they can so hang around a few days or more! :)

Man you have bad luck. You need to catch zzdoc online for this one. Keep checking to see if he is online and he will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the Clapton! :!: And more!!! 8) Maybe Ceri, Orvilleowner. Nikininja and several more informed posters!

I installed a clapton mid boost on one of mine. You need to have a 50k pot for the volume otherwise you get horrible funny noises.

Really? If that's true then why does the clapton strat come fitted with a 250K volume pot?

look into what comes with the mod kit mate. its deffo a 50k pot. I made the mistake myself when i tried to change it for a 500k. Many people have made the mistake too just search the forums. the noise is kind of synthesizer squeal like if i remember right.

Hey thanks for trying to help me out, but just to clarify I didnt' buy any mod kits at all or the midboost or for the vintage noiseless pups.
I got a regular stock clapton strat that comes with all that already working fine, but I didnt' like the TBX so I traded it out for a 250K tone lin tone pot with a 0.047 cap and now the tone isn't responding correctly. I'm not getting any annoying noise or anything, it's just that the tone control is messed up.
I'm not sure that changing my volume pot is going to change or help anything, is it? I might be wrong though.... Keep the ideas/comments coming please.
cheers

sorry i misread the original post. However i also ditched my tbx infavour of a 250k pot with a 47cap and had no problems. I didnt note if it was audio taper or not though. Perhaps its a faulty pot or cap. Tone pots taper is very noticable if used on a volume circuit, i cant remember hearing a difference the other way round.

Yea, it might be a faulty pot. I might try some different ones out, do you know if I should stick to 250K or if I should try out 500K ones? You mentioned the 250K worked for you, but that doesn't make sense since the vintage noiseless pups are actually double coils... And also what capacitors should I match with the pot? 0.047 or 0.022? Would you happen to know?

Right..yes it is nearly 1 AM lol maybe I should get some sleep as well, lol. Thanks for the offer of checking to see how yours is wired up, but please don't feel pressured to take your guitar apart on my account.
cheers

Mines a .022 and a audio taper pot. Just had it apart. I dont need much excuse to dismantle something and start poking around the gubbins.
