Hello, Im sad that my first post in this forum is this. I jsut picked up some CS69 pickups and noticed that the writing is different on 1 pickup vs the other 2. I wouldnt think twice about this however the writing on the 1 blacksheep is completely different in every way on almost every letter or number. Can anyone help me shed light on this?

No opinions? I mean, for example, the number 8.. How many change the way they write the number 8? Either 1 continuous line or 2 circles right?

Did you get the guitar straight from the factory or was it used thus giving someone a chance to do a mod fraud? :?

I purchased the pickups from sweetwater. They said they would replace the pickups, and told me that they have pickup sets with both types of writing, so they asked me to pick which style of writing I wanted.. Is that not odd? It just makes me disappointed, and honestly I feel I cannot put a value to the initials. I guess I am hoping that someone else is familiar with her writing or has a pic of their CS69s to compare to.

Seeing that this is a Fender sponsored forum, maybe you could ask customer service if they would ask AY to verify if either specimen you've photographed is in fact, her hand writing.

Thanks for the advice, I did call them, and they told me they have no contact with the factory and have no "proof" or any way of telling...

Have you checked the web to see if you can find other AY pictures?

Some have said that, for a time, "AY" meant that Abby just checked the pickup that someone else on her "staff" wound. The pickups she actually wound herself were signed "Abby" (in a script).

Good luck with all of that!

Yea, I get what you are saying... They have passed through her hands supposedly, not necassarily wound by her.. Thats most likely fact... But to walk the fine line of who actually signed them is ballsy to say the least. Especially when it says its her doing the initialing on the actual package. Oh well..such is life... Fender did get back to me and said that both styles are considered correct... Whatever... thats a cop out.

The package says:
"..and continues today with her handsigned and dated Custom 69 Strat pickups."

I'm not sure I would get that concerned. First of all you purchased them new in the box right?. Secondly, I know from experience that my own handwriting changes from day to day depending on how hurried I am at the time I wrote something. I might even use the letter "e" or "E" printed different ways in the same sentence or in 2 different words when I am writing fast. I don't know why. I tend to do the same thing with numbers, so maybe Abigale is the same way. See what you have done. Now I have to go take my Strat apart and look at my CS 69's to see if they look any different.

I took mine apart and there are some slight differences in the writing, and the type of pen that was used. I had to partially remove the Custom Shop sticker to get the photos. I'm still not concerned about the writing. Here are the photos. I hope this helps.

Thanks Randy that does help, like comparing notes... Yea Ive pretty much gotten over it, just threw me for a loop... Ultimately what they did was send me another set and had me pick out the 3 that looked the closest... good enough for me.

You're very welcome. By the way, Sweetwater is a good, reputable place to buy gear and that is another reason to be confident about your pickups. They are located about an hour from where I live and I have been there many times. Its a great place. Glad I could be of help.
