i just bought a used mexican strat. i was told it had tex mex pickups in it so when i got it, i took the pickguard off to check them out. the only markings i could see was the custom shop V logo and the words "custome shop". are there any other markings on the pickups that differentiate between tex mex, 57's, fat, etc? by the way, after my tech finished with it, the thing is sweet! maple neck is great to play and whatever those pickups are, they sound terrific! thanks

First of all, congrats on getting this cool axe! To help you with your p-ups, the tex-mex ones don't have anything wrtitten underneath ( no custom shop logo). The 57'/62' have staggered beveled edges and they have the closest (IMO) sound to the real vintage ones. The fat 50's sound very classic but with enhanced bass response, alnico 5 magnets . As for the c-shop 69's these babies are hand signed on the base. I guess the only way to know wich ones are, is to measure the DC resistance of each (they all have distinct measures). If so post them and i'll take a look in book on strat pickup specs and i'll be glad to post them back to you!!!

Hope this helps! take care.

thanks! i guess they are either 57/62's or fat 50's. they have staggered poles but they are not beveled at all. i used to own an old strat so i am familiar with the beveled pole pieces. anyway, this thing sounds great-that maple neck plays like butter after a quality set-up. i bought it on a whim on ebay dirt cheap and i haven't been able to put it down since! my les paul standard, 335 and various old harmony hollowbodies have been locked in their cases since i got this thing. keep playin them blues....i know i will!
